Grappa: Distilleria Sancarlo

When I was at the Taste food fair in Florence several weeks ago, I had the pleasant opportunity to be acquainted with the smallest distillery of grappa in Italy: Distilleria Sancarlo.

The unique fact about this grappa producer is not the size of the distillery but rather the fact that they distill the grappa two times: something that none others do in Italy.

I’m not going to go into too many details until the owners of Sancarlo tell you the story by themselves, but this grappa is made rigorously by hand with all natural products and no added sugar.

Some of their products include Sun Vera, which is made from the Nebbiolo grape. It is clear, colorless, musky with notes of blackberry and wild rose.

Then there is Mij Son, which is a blend from the selected skins of Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera grapes. Also clear, this grappa is intense with delicate shades of rose and grass clippings.

Ara Nel is carefully selected from Moscato and its color is slightly amber; its taste is delicate with an intense aroma and hints of acacia honey and orange blossom.

As a lover of grappa, I am able to testify that, after having tasted it, Sancarlo is one of the best around!
