Meet the Chef of New York Fashion Week Italian Collections: Raffaele Ronca
Born in Naples, Italy, Raffaele Ronca comes from a family of butchers and fisherman. Growing up in the City of the Sun, Raffaele saw his mother make fresh homemade pasta everyday, something that instilled a passion in him for good food.
At the age of 21, Raffaele took the brave move to emigrate to the United States, winding up in the Big Apple where he worked in some of the most prestigious restaurants.
I met Raffaele this week with TV show host Ornella Fado of Brindiamo at his restaurant called Rafele Ristorante, which is located at 29 7th Avenue in Greenwich Village.
When I walked in, the waiter brought out a plate of steaming hot pasta to a customer. I could not help but be swept away by the aroma coming from that dish!
Raffaele not only has an extensive wine list to try but also a menu that features vegan and gluten-free dishes.
Another thing that caught my eye is the wood-fuelled stone oven in which Raffaele makes authentic Neapolitan pizza!
